Most styes clear up within 7 to 10 days with warm compresses, eyelid cleansing, and, when prescribed by a healthcare professional, antibiotics. To treat a stye at home, clean your eyelids with a commercial eyelid scrub—we highly recommend our Eyelid Cleanser—and apply a warm compress for 5 to 10 minutes twice daily.
Always wash your hands before touching the affected area. Never squeeze the stye, and avoid rubbing your eyes. If you normally wear contact lenses, switch to glasses until the stye has healed.
If the stye does not begin to improve within 48 hours, consult your doctor. You may need antibiotic or anti-inflammatory eye drops, or the stye may need to be professionally drained.
